7 Tips on Hosting the Most Magical Kids Party Ever

by Hannah Scrivener

When hosting a childs party it can be a scary task. A group of screaming uncontrollable children running around your house, making mess, crying and spilling drinks is not what you want. You want your child to have a fun, exciting day filled with magic and surprise and for your guests to be entertained and be able to relax while their children enjoy themselves.

1. Location: Location is paramount. Getting an ideal location where children can run around, without making a mess, with lots of space and room to play games is the best thing you can do. Parks make perfect party venues especially in spring and summer. Try to avoid small squashy areas where kids get restless and its hard to play running games or blow bubbles.

2. Themes: Now that you have the location you can begin to think about themes, games and entertainment. Popular themes to consider could include fairy, princess, mermaid, Dora the explorer, Tinkerbell and Peterpan, Pirates, angel or superheroes.

3. Decorating: Once youve chosen the theme you can decorate the party venue to create a magical underwater world, enchanted fairy land or tropical pirate island. Change the names of the food and drinks to match the theme. For example coke becomes witches broth, marshmallows to fairy clouds or red cordial can be superhero energy potion.

4. Entertainment: Hiring an entertainer is a great idea and will save you from running all the games and activities yourself, instead you can focus on talking with other parents or serving food while the children are taken away into a land of adventure by the entertainer. It is also very exciting for children to think a real fairy or superhero is coming to visit them on their special day.

5. Timing: The age of your child and guests will establish how long the party will go for and what time of day is ideal. For under 3-4 year olds morning parties between 10-12pm work best and entertainment should go for an hour with half an hour before to let people arrive and half an hour at the end to enjoy the cake and food and say goodbye. With older children between 4-8 years old longer parties are suitable and any time of day is fine.

6. Games: Some games you must include in the party, which are always loved by children of all ages are musical statues and dancing games, treasure hunts and story telling, bubble catching, pass the parcel, balloon bending and craft activities like magic wand making or swords for boys depending on the theme. Tailor the games to suit the chosen theme, as this will ensure the magic permeates throughout the day, for example change pass-the-parcel to pass the magic treasure box for a fairy themed party.

7. Have Fun: Finally relaxing and having fun is the most important thing, sometimes, even with all the preparation you put in, things dont always go to plan. Make sure you take many pictures and dont let bad weather, unexpected guests or unreliable catering companies spoil the special occasion! Remember that ultimately this is your childs special day to celebrate their life with you.
