7 Tips on Hosting the Most Magical Children’s Party Ever

by Hannah Scrivener

When you hold your childs birthday you want it to be a fun, exciting and magical experience for them. You want to be able to relax and watch your child have fun and have all your guests happily entertained. Here are some tips to help you achieve this.

1. Location: Location is paramount. Getting a suitable location where children can run around, without making a mess, with lots of space and room to play games is the best thing you can do. Parks make perfect party venues especially in spring and summer. Try to avoid cramped squashy areas where kids get restless and its hard to play running games or blow bubbles.

2. Themes: Now that you have the location you can begin to think about themes, games and entertainment. Possible themes to consider could include fairy, princess, mermaid, Dora the explorer, Tinkerbell and Peterpan, Pirates, prince or superheroes.

3. Decorating: To create an even more exciting and magical experience for your child it is important to build upon the theme and let the magical experience permeate the day. For example with a fairy theme you could decorate the venue to look like fairy land with balloons and glitter and pink cushions etc. Get creative with the names of the food, changing marshmallows to fairy clouds or the red cordial to love potion, chips can be goblin ears and coke can be witches broth.

4. Entertainment: Hiring an entertainer is a very popular option as they bring all the games, prizes and props and the children are delighted by the idea of a magical character such as a fairy or pirate visiting the party on their special day. A great entertainer will take the children on an adventure and leave the parents to sit back, relax and watch the fun.

5. Timing: For younger children under 3 years old it is best to hold a morning party between 10-12pm as the little ones get tired and usually need to sleep in the afternoon. An hour of entertainment is great if you are hiring someone and even half and hour works well with really small groups. With older children any time of day is good and extended entertainment packages are great with activities such as story telling, magic treasure hunts, craft activities and guessing games.

6. Games: Some games you must include in the party, which are always loved by children of all ages are musical statues and dancing games, treasure hunts and story telling, bubble catching, pass the parcel, balloon bending and craft activities like magic wand making or swords for boys depending on the theme. Tailor the games to reflect the chosen theme, as this will ensure the magic permeates throughout the party, for example change pass-the-parcel to pass the magic treasure box for a fairy themed party.

7. Have Fun: Finally relaxing and having fun is the most important thing, sometimes, even with all the preparation you put in, things dont always go to plan. Make sure you take many pictures and dont let bad weather, unexpected guests or unreliable catering companies ruin the special occasion! Remember that in the end this is your childs special day to celebrate their life with you.
